I am a psychiatrist in clinical practise.I have become aware in my work of the imbalance in the handling of men and women in several areas in our society.Men are discriminated against in law and particularly in family law .
Also in employment and education..The Movement began as a joint effort by Stella Poniris and my self ,Dr Alex Sharah.
Mens Justice Movement. A non-profit group that stands for those that are good fathers, brothers and husbands in today's society. Standing for men's rights against discrimination in today's day and age.
Do you know a good father who is not allowed to see his children? or a fellow man being emotionally threatened or abused by their wife or partner?
What do we hope to achieve ?
1.A wake up call to the community which has become so used to men being put down and side lined that it is not aware of it happening .
2.The establishement of a working body of men and women to study all aspects of discrimination agaisnt men and boys in our society and to formulate plans to counter them.
3.For men to have equal rights to custody of their children as given by John Howard in 2006.This has been nullified by recent unnecessary changes to child protection which has been broadened ridiculously.
As a phsychiatrist I see the sad affects in the children and the fathers as well as the mothers. The Family law act is not for Justice in family affairs but is a tool for changing our society. However men are discriminated right across the legal world.Police brutality is particularly against them.
Employment is essential for men to feel that they are Men and areworking for thier families.Today the overwhelming number of jobs are in the womens hands eg nursing, teaching, clerica,l customer service and even surprisingly in the forces.Eg in the army it is 54% female and Steven Smith our minister for the forces wants the same the other ones.In the police the same policie exists.Suicide is 4 times more common in men then women today. What is your experience?
